fuel regulator
Lachlan VL - June 3rd, 2012 at 10:08 PM

was wondering how much a t peice fuel regulator would cost
seem like my car is running to rich and its popping

grumble - June 3rd, 2012 at 10:13 PM

around the $80 mark but steer clear of Redline if you like your bug.

Lachlan VL - June 3rd, 2012 at 10:19 PM

whys that

Joel - June 3rd, 2012 at 10:29 PM

Do you have an electric fuel pump or a stock mechanical one?

Stock mechanical shouldn't need a regulator, if you're running rich you need to look at your jetting

Lachlan VL - June 4th, 2012 at 10:15 AM

ive got an 1835cc which is currently running an electric fuel pump from the fuel tank and my carbies are delordos now its poping until the car is fully warmed up which i dont like do u think its best if i get that t peice fuel regulator that sits in the engine bay on the firewall ?

Poping or pining to me is lean!!!
But I only know EFI so I can't help much more. Sorry

poppin mate....no efi
it needs a T piece fuel reg...

sander288 - June 4th, 2012 at 12:14 PM

I think a few people on here have used the Holley T-piece regulator

Looking at getting one myself to ensure my Kadrons aren't getting more pressure than they need; the stock replacement pumps can be questionable at times even when the pump is set-up as per the factory specs; see the video below

I'm with Aaron in that popping usually means lean.

As engines warm up they generally need less fuel, so the fact that it only does it when it's cold points to lean also.

If it runs nicely when warmed up my 2c would be that I don't think it's gonna be fuel pressure related, so a pressure reg prolly won't help.

I only know Webers and not really Dell's... what sort of choke or enrichment setup do they have ???

20bkombi - June 4th, 2012 at 01:56 PM

Ahhh that annoying Vw poping sound.
So this is when fuel pressure fluctuates causing rich lean conditions??
And when it goes lean it pops?? No??
Do these carb not have fuel bowls or choke butterflies??
Sorry I'm just interested.
Aaron

thanks for the interest this is my first vw ivee owned in only 16 turning 17 so im learning every day i post something new. aaron im not quite sure but i bought this car 3 years ago not knowing whats been done to it tryed to track back the previous owners but they wernt sure now ive had a few phone calls and u guys imput which i apreciate but first im gonna get me a holley t peice fuel regulator with a gauge so i can see how the fuel is dividing between both carbies then if it not the fuel flowing evenly gonna tune the jets and go from there.

thanks

Holley regulators can be picked up just about anywhere..

Clean your idle jets. Mine was running like shit the other day so i checked the idle jets on my Dells and one was blocked. Put it back in started it up and happy engine again. I used a mallory regulator with bypass valve.

Damo.

Lachlan VL - June 4th, 2012 at 09:32 PM

see in ur pic ive only got a t peice no gauge or nothin

Sides - June 4th, 2012 at 09:35 PM

Damo - guessing Dell's are pretty similar design to Weber IDF's hey... no choke/enrichment and idle jets that block up every time the wind changes ???

If so then yeah - blocked idle jet == lean == popping

:(

Can't go wrong with Mallory gear IMHO.

Lachlan VL - June 4th, 2012 at 09:41 PM

will have a look thanks

vassy66T1 - June 5th, 2012 at 08:26 AM

What carb configuration and what idles, mains etc. ?
The popping could be fuel splashing in due to no regulator but less likely.
Float level is critical too.

1303Steve - June 5th, 2012 at 10:06 AM

Hi

Dellortos are prone to blocking idle jets, if you haven't already fit jet doctors and buy the the CB Dellorto book, its very helpful with setting them up.
