Oil filler
tar76 - July 2nd, 2012 at 06:39 PM
Fitting a new oil filler neck to my bug and was wondering do they go all the way down to the shoulder and gasket. Mine is a aftermarket one non
standard and i can't wind it all the way to the gasket, just gets really tight and won't turn anymore. I cleaned up the thread and still no go.
I've started it up and where it sits now there are no leaks so i thought this would do?

it should screw all the way down to the gasket face

No My alloy one has an o ring where they join...
I may have put it there????
I also put some pipe thread PTFE on the thread to stop any oil leaking out......
Your thread may be wrong...
remembering where these were made... lol
[china PRC or taiwan rep of china] taiwan was better quality
the best oil filler is the angled one so the cap is horizontal
much easier to pour oil into...
LEE

this is the angled filler....

this is the good filler

Thanks Lee i think i might go with your advice and change to the angle type

Hi
The angle ones are much better, the plastic caps crack on the other ones.
To get mine indexed properly I used some 1500 Beetle inlet manifold copper O rings with a smear of silicone on them.

You will need a tool to do up the slotted nut, i have one that fits a 1/2" drive, you can do it with a piece of flat bar ground down to fit the
slotted nut.
