Hey guys, I haven't seen this topic after a bit of searching so I though I'd just ask. I have a 58 bug with the normal fuel tank but I'm wondering,
is it possible to fit a later year tank, the flat type I mean, like the ones found in the supers but with the filler on the top, etc? Reason being,
for some reason I prefer the look of this tank (for modifying reasons) and also I'm making as much room as I can for a radiator.
Please help!
yes you can fit the later tank in . ive got one in my early model bug.
Hi
A superbug tank wont fit but any beam front end car tank will fit, 1500s and later beam bugs had the filler in the 1/4 panel, it wouldn't be hard to
fit a 90 degree bend on later tank and run the 1500 style filler under the bonnet.
Steve
Cheers guys, one more thing, has anyone ran an internal (if there is room) fuel pump in the later tanks?
Sorry, but a late tank will not fit an early car with an upright tank. The hole is smaller and flat >'60 where the later '60-'67 is sloping fwd. A 60-67 car will accept a 1500 or '68> (all beam cars and not supers)

You need to replace forward from the front edge of where the old tank sits. So basically you're replacing the wheel well section.
I have a 60 where some nong tried to make room for a 61-67 tank by cutting metal from the back edge into the firewall only to find out it didn't
work. Now I have to replace entire front firewall panel.

Matt.
