Recently I had a new motor installed in my bug, along with a new clutch. I had the clutch put in because there was a bad wobble in the rear end. It
turned out that the wobble was actually caused by the clutch cable tube that runs through the tunnel. It had broken away from the tunnel, and was
basically sliding around in there.
Now, the mechanic welded it up where it exists the frame at the back, but told me I would need to cut the tunnel and re-anchor it inside.
What I need to know, is where do I cut on the tunnel to get at it, and how do I go about re-securing it. Is it just welded in place?
I'm hoping someone else has had this problem before and can tell me what I need to do, and where to cut! I don't want to cut through the clutch
cable, or worse - fuel lines! lol
Thanks in advance!
Dave

I can measure up on one I have repaired if you need
Blackbug,
Below are Daimo's measurements for the front from when he helped me with the same problem. To weld the front of the tube you drill a hole in the side
of the tunnel with a 2" hole saw. The rear end you get access through the gearshift coupler inspection plate and Daimo recommends one in the middle
of the tunnel on the side for good measure.

Thanx matt, was wondering who I did that for
Just to be clear, it's the drivers side you want to access
You guys rock!
So if the rear one has already been welded up, there's only the front one to do??
Do you weld the hole up again, or can you just leave it?
All being well with the rest of the pan, it's okay to leave open
Yeah just the front to do , but I like the middle one as well as per matt's linked thread.... Takes the pressure off the other two which you will
have repaired. Effectively the risks of having to do them a second time become somewhat touch and go
thats good to know, because we dont even have a clutch tube,

Thought it would be.... How the he'll does it turn under the torsion bar housing without rubbing constantly???
Is it shorter than standard? Does the pedal feel funky ??
Just queers me out
as most know
the conduit above the gearbox needs to be stessed by having an s bend in it
just in case all that internal stuff does not work for you!!!
Hey daimo, not dead, just craaaaaazzzyyyyy busy.
