Stand offs
tar76 - August 13th, 2012 at 01:59 PM

done a search but couldn't find anything to help.

I've been stuffing around with a set of upper deck lid stand offs today and for life of me i can't them to play the game.

The lid only clears the bumper if i force it and have rolled the lip slightly (don't worry only shitty bumpers) and the catch will not catch. I've tried all position on the adjustment, in out and no go.
do you have to modify the catch to get the lid to close or don't you worry about getting it to lock down? should i de bumper the bug ?

I run no bumpers and have never been pulled up for it. Although if you have an accident you'd be in the shit, both repair-wise and insurance-wise.

You'll find no bumpers is fine as long as you have the front number plate mounted on the apron, it's when you add T-bars it becomes illegal as they are classed as a dangerous protrusion but then so are those damn eyebrows but it doesn't stop people fitting them.

How much is the decklid hitting the bumper by?
if its not much try loosening the bumper mount bolts and drop it down a bit.

Cheers guys.

Rear bumper is off and no worries now! Have to say i like the rear no bumper look. With the catch just had to bend the opening out a bit and seems to working ok.

normally you just have to bend your stand off a bit .
we run vwcool (Glen torrens) style

why not drill new holes in the brackets to lengthen the bumpers away from the body so u can open the deck lid ;)
no cop probs then

You could have moved the bumper away from the body with spacers etc.
I use the clip on type of top of engine lid opener
I did have the alloy stand offs on but could never align the engine lid after I took them off for the winter..
some people fit another lip for the catch to operate properly
the clip on type can be taken off in a minute so you can have the engine lid off in a minute... and it just goes back on just as fast..
someone on here was selling them a while back
[I believe He made them]

cheers
