I'm thinking about doing some work on my "63" that I bought in "87". I haven't touched it in nearly 20 years. It has been pranged by a previous
owner and needs a new driver side front quarter. Can I buy one in Australia?
It's supposed to be a 63 and maybe someone can confirm this for me. The chassis number is 4474419.
Hello?...anyone there?
are you after new repro, good used or NOS?
full 1/4 or just from mid tank forward?
New or really good used. I don't know what NOS is so I can't answer that. I need the whole thing back to the door if possible.
NEW OLD STOCK.(GENUINE usually expensive)usually better quality.sounds like serious damage. i myself dont know for a fact ,but was told to stay away from a beetle with damaged front quarters.as they wer apparently not repairable. someone correct me if im wrong.
there are NOS ones about. a few of the vw shops in sydney have some to suit various years. the prices last time i asked were about $500 for oval era
ones.
is it creased behind the guard?
my 63 has similar damage, if i can i would like to use nos ones but i already built the car wrong once and this time i want it to be perfect.
It's pushed in and creased. The guard sits under the bonnet line. The running board doesn't quite meet the guard and the gap in the driver's door is wider than it should be. It seems the corner has bent around.
ouch. can you post some pics for a better idea. i know a guy near nambour, who can fix anything.
I my first beetle had the same damage and my dad panel beat it out and pulled it out with a hand winch to the point where everything lined back up.
Took a "little" persuasion but it came good in the end.
I've never replaced a front quarter panel on a beetle so I can't say how hard it would be.
The car hasn't moved in at least 15 years and it's in a tight spot. The brakes are sticky and I'll have to address that before I can move it out to get better pics.
