It's Hard to find a good looking wheel and tyre combo for superbugs unless you go slimline struts but im trying to get a buget wheel and tyre package.

My bug is 80mm lowered in the front and thats why i am wondering will these wheels fit?? they basically same dimentions as stock? but 1" wider overall? im wanting to know will they fit a lowered superbug with say stock tyres on the front? or a lower profile 185/15 ??

Please help me out with any info guys.

You really need to know the ET of your current wheels so you can compare that to any potential wheels that you like, with that information you can determine if the wheel will fit, a 1" increase in width should fit if it has only added a 1/2" increase to the ET.

I Just Read That The Stock Wheel ET is 25 so im guessing 30 ET with an extra 1" wider would fit?

its fair to say that the width and offset of these wheels are pretty well spot on for the super bug and standard beetle. Note that 15 x 5 1/2 inch with 30 ET (give or take) is about all that you can get these days.
I run 5 1/2 inch with 30 ET on an L Bug and a 1976 standard bug. Although on the L bug you need to consider using thinner strut springs, such as supplied by V Force. Personally I think the Gas Burner or V Force Spider look better than the ones shown above.

I Have an S bug so do you think it would rub on the springs? i know 15x6" do but do 5.5" do aswell?

The selection of wheels is because they in the stud pattern i already have and also my car is black and silver/chrome trim.

1010tires or something, offset calculator, it's accurate, compare stock to those & check clearances, and if necessary, find a guard roller, I recall minimal outer clearance because you went so low...

I'll Check out the Calcucator. and there Still is a bit of Room in there with the stocks but it could be the straw that broke the camels back kinda thing for an extra inch wider.

They will fit, tyre choice will be important (get 135 F and 165 R)

They fit well with a narrowish tyre like 165 or smaller

Brad runs them on his 72 and it's lowered on adjustable struts.

Okay No worries, i got 165's for the front, can you get lower profile 165's?

Whats the fattest you could tuck under the back you reccon?

You can get 165/45s but they are like fanbelts



depends how much of a staggered look you want but try and keep close to stock rolling diameter in the back, something like a 195/65 or 205/60 to keep revs happy and not rub too much.

Hmm, still an option tho if my bug is too low and tyres are too tall. also wouldnt the lower profile 165/45/15's be more hug the road better? more stable then skinny tall 165's?

Front tyre size dictates your speedo accuracy & ability to brake, go narrow & kiss wet weather stopping ability goodbye.
Stock size or wider, roll guard edges or raise if necessary.

I Have Rolled My Guard Edges and I Can Adjust My Speedo To Suit My Wheels but yeah I won't go Narrower Then 165's

careful at rego time dylan, smaller rolling diameter of low profile front tyre may present an issue for the inspector particularly at blue-slip time. might have tp rego with your stockies

Getting on the road is no:1 priority. You have limited funds and time, so getting it rust free and roadworthy is the main thing and the easiest way is to do it stock.

Once you've got it regoed, then you can gradually add all the bling and start whacking it with the lowering stick. At the moment you have an engine to sort out as well, spend your dough on that.

Remember, just a short while ago you were ready to chuck it all in, don't overstretch yourself by trying to have the "whole package" straight off, or you might end up back in that place again.

Thanks guys, I understand where you guys are coming from and yes I'm now focusing on Engine to get it all going and safe. The reason i asked about these wheels is because i want to have a plan for the future of what the car gonna be like. With a lowered super bug you don't have many options for wheels unless you go slimline strut springs and change stud pattern. I saw these style and thought id ask. As it happens they will be nice and yes they will be hopefully going on after February after rego.

For Blueslip i needa go back to stock height and stock seats and stock wheels too anyways :/

I Don't Believe it is too low but the guy doing my blue slip saying he wont pass it with it that low. It's 80mm lower from stock height at front and 60mm from stock height at rear. He said he is all fine and knows ill be changing it all back to how i want it the next day but for blueslip it's gottah be that way.

I Kinda understand where he's coming from but it just makes it harder on me.

Just quickly mate.
I've got BBS RS's going in on mine.
They're 16x7.5j and they fit under the guards pretty sweet. I've lowered the front of Zelda about 2.5 inches and the rear still has to come down a bit.
Here are some photos of fitment for your pleasure.

Minimal amount of poke on the front, definitely keeping it like this though, might even go a bit more to be honest.


As you can see I clear the strut at the front, however I will have lost full lock completely, and with tires mounted the tire itself will be chewed up quite a bit on the bracket for the brake hose.


As for the rear, they tuck nicely in with the little camber that I have. Will probably get some 10mm spacers though for the rear as with the current width of them, they would hit the arm where the bump stop stopper sits, with any sort of bump in the road.


Still need to work out what tires though, but probably looking at 205/40/16's to wrap them nicely. They're obviously not a perfect fit, but when you're trying to do something different, a little customising comes into play!
