67 bus for sale "Buyer be aware !!"
Jayess - December 16th, 2013 at 05:17 PM

Not going to bitch on but I had a nasty experience attempting to buy a certain 67 Black and grey Kombi. Unfortunately I took an interest in this bus and traveled along way to see it after several cordial exchanges over the phone and sms with the owner. Unfortunately I did not find it anywhere near the quality the seller professed. Thinking the guy was still prepared to negotiate I presented him with in my personal opinion and a very experienced VW addicted friend of mines opinion with a more than reasonable opening offer of $20,000 in cash.( I had thirty on me. and was open to nego higher) Without making eye contact was told to " F$&@ off out the front and call yourself a cab ! So we did. Lesson lurned. There are always trying to cash in on anything with a vw badge!
Taking advantage of the afflicted and addicted!!!

Jayess - December 16th, 2013 at 05:20 PM

Sorry he advertised the bus at $34,950 and dropped to $29,500 over the phone so he appeared to be reasonable. Yes it was all to good to be true!!!

MR930 - December 16th, 2013 at 06:34 PM

What did you expect with an offer like that? I've done the same thing in the past, he already dropped 5k on his asking price.

Jayess - December 16th, 2013 at 08:07 PM

well I 30 grand cash and was willing to make a deal, I guess I expected too much. Silly me. I guess I expected to leave a fair chunk of that there and get the bus shipped home. As it was not roadworthy as he stated. Whta would you have done ?

LUFTMEISTER - December 16th, 2013 at 09:30 PM

If he cannot give you an honest description of it before you inspect it, then he obviouslyis dillusional and best to avoid. Arse Clowns are best avoided. My2c

It's not where u start the negos it's where u finish in cars and real estate....etc
the choice of words and uncouth directions were un-AVD plus additional pain in the formula of un-rwc, long trip and possibly initial overpricing as well as shipping costs (given there were two knowledgable vwers involved in the assessment)!!
( Jayess did use the word humility )..

Klaus - December 18th, 2013 at 10:23 AM

It's funny how some pieces of shit busses are fetching the money they are, all due to the COOL factor and the Hype that surrounds the stigma, as you notice I'm not as diplomatic as Jayess and hardly think the bus would be worth his offer, but to turn around and say that to a prospective buyer who has travelled a long way with the expense of even bringing a third party is totally F*&%ed Up.

more than 2c

Not all sellers like the "American Pickers" method of negotiating.
If I was asking $30k for a car, and someone offered me $20k, I probably would have told them to F off too.
If your tactic was to start low, and then meet in the middle (which clearly didn't work), then perhaps you should have made a reasonable, realistic offer.
If the bus was really a POS, then why bother making an offer, you could have just walked away without any angst.

I know this bus very well ..body wise it needs some luv but that's why they invented tools and filler very little rust as I replaced a lot of it , reco 1500 box great 1600 twin port , flipped spindles which are in great cond , new tie rods , drag link think shocks were old but very good cond , retrim interior brakes were rebuilt , he actually drove it from Wollongong nsw to Adelaide so its def road worthy ...it did valla , oldbar and many trips around the south coast .... If you can do the work yourself building a non shiny bus for under 30 is possible if your a cheque writer with soft hands 60+

DakDak67 - February 8th, 2014 at 10:23 PM

They're all experts Klaus. Don't waste your breath.

Imac - February 9th, 2014 at 12:53 PM

{ F$&@ off out the front and call yourself a cab }
Can someone tell me what is wrong with saying no thank you!!!
If I'm a prospective customer it is my right to to determine the price I'm prepared to pay and the sellers right to reject that offer, It is no ones right to be a Cock but most take it for granted this has got nothing to do with price or condition it's about common courtesy.

Klaus - February 9th, 2014 at 05:08 PM

It's also how you come across , I've done plenty of low ball offers but warned the seller that I'm going to make a rude offer first to see what they need for it .. Always with a smile :)

Agree with what you say.
The problem here is, we are only hearing one version of the event.
I am sure if the offer was made using tact and politeness, then a F off would not have been forthcoming.

Craig Torrens - February 9th, 2014 at 07:33 PM

Maybe it was F off with a smile ;)

Money talks and bullshit walks
My dad use to say.
Talk to the hand my son says.

applez - April 13th, 2014 at 10:21 AM

I did some research on that bus as I was looking at is also. If its the guy from SA with the grey and black one that was advertised on gumtree then it wasn't in my opinion worth more than about $25k. It was a Wollongong bus that underwent serious metal replacement work because the previous owner had bogged the S%^t out of it. Could have had hidden surprises on that one. Anyway, the price of the buses has gone up massively in the last two years. Place a good resto bus on gumtree and it's lucky to stay unsold for three days it seems. Pain in the but for us buyers!

tar76 - April 13th, 2014 at 12:52 PM

20K for a split driving rego'd, now days....good luck!

Like Klaus mentioned if you do it yourself up to 30K, but if your wanting to buy something done keep the green backs rolling out. I know some may need work but unfortunately the prices have gone up, and if you want one then you got to buy in whichever way? some people can look at the non resto splits with a attitude of it needs fixing and should pay less.....not the case
End of the day that dude owns the bus he can ask whatever he wants don't take it heart just keep looking.
