091 starter motor (2lt)
Cabbage - February 13th, 2015 at 04:50 PM

Hi all...
I'm 60km out of emerald qld in a 76 2lt (orig EFI but not carbi) baywindow kombi.... (been travelling/living in it for 20 odd yrs'ish)....

Unfortunatally my starter motor has died... rather than having it rebuilt Im considering buying a new one (the 091 trans starter motors are as rare as hens teeth (yes I have double checked trans number))... I've notices several "high torque" alternatives (on line).

Has any one had experience with buying new 091 (2lt) starter motors.... I WANT SOMETHING THAT JUST BOLT IN - no roadside mods

Can anyone confirm if a Bosch SR87x would be suitable (for 091)

Thanks for any help

Dave (pls txt 043 4785723)

Thanks helbus... it is one of the alternatives im considering (tring to get info on any required mods to fit - they seem to be considerably bigger (my bus is stock) AND spare parts avaliavlity for starter motor.... 350 bucks + postage is a bit of an investment for a starter butt I lov by Begal (VeeDub).... Thanks

The CAE starters are much smaller. They are a Hi Torque starter with a reduction gear. They will fit easier than a stock unit.

Thanks again Helbus.... Since it should be a hassle free solution.... I'll take it... It will be great to not have to clutch start (park on hill while tring to sleep) and when you look at the cost of rewiring the coils on the armiture - not so expensive.... Cheers
