Bus to Ute Conversion
vwkj87 - June 26th, 2016 at 09:48 AM

I keep looking at a spare Bay shell I have with a roof beyond repair and I'm thinking of converting it to a Single cab.

Has anyone tried this before? I've seen a few finished results, but I would like to see if anyone has gone through the process. I'm after a more custom look instead of 100% authentic. Also curious what Qld Transport say about ute conversions.

Bit of an alternative to a ute - something I would love to do. Not sure how you'd go with the Dept of Transport.

That looks like fun.

That's the sort of thing I'm thinking, or a single cab version with a half sliding door. Do you have more pics and details of the process?

Found this on the Samba. I would love to know more about it.

As for the dept of transport. Its a rust repair. There are no guide lines for rust repair, nowhere does it say you have to repair as per factory.Although you'll have to get it blue plated for change of seating capacity. Some of those choppers are very cool.

I'm thinking of building a steel frame flatbed with a roll bar that joins to the back of the cab.

Can anyone recommend somebody who does mods plates in SEQ who can advise me?

Nice utes, but wouldn't not having drop gates make it a tad difficult getting bulky stuff in and out?

Yes and no.

No different to having a Commodore of Ford ute. Or any styleside 4WD.
They only have tailgates at the back.

I've seen a guy at the drags with us load 2 Busa's into a 4WD Hilux well body side-by-side using a 600kg Backlift in the front corner.
