(Help) Kombi that im looking at buying
greezy - February 25th, 2009 at 03:57 PM

Gday,

I have been looking for a kombi for a while now and i found this one on the "volksworld" website im not to sure if its a good buy or not. Im new to the kombi scene and any help would be great, if you have seen this bus before or have any views or information that may help me in chooseing a kombi it would be greatly apprecitated.

Anywho this is the sales pitch on the website:

1978 Automatic Kombi Van Blue in colour, fitted with a 2.0 ltr motor, showing 12137klm. It is all in good condition for its age and drives quite well. Generally a very clean and original unit. I am presenting this vehicle as I have purchased it. There was a small fire in the engine compartment which has scorched some of the paint work at the rear, nothing to serious! Would suit some-one who wants a good basis to start with. It will be sold "AS IS", Engine No.CJ069905. Price is $4000 "AS-IS". Since originally placing this Ad, this van has developed a problem with the motor! It was removed pulled apart, inspected and found to have a faulty head. This was repaired as was necessary, re-assembled, re-sealed & put back into the van, so I can assure you that the motor is a good one.

Vans are quite scarce and price is reasonable if it was in W.A
You could always make an offer:blush:

its just a sailor panel van, high in the front, given theres nothing in it. Its nothing 'wow', just a tired panel. They aint rare ... not worth 8k IMO. Keep looking.

Just out of interest how much would it cost to get a few more horses out of the engine? cause i know that stock 2l engines dont have a lot of power to start with and it being an automatic trans i can imagine it being a bit slugish. I know that you can get an engine conversion but i think that might start to get a bit costly so what costs are involved in giveing the stock engine some more grunt?

Cheers
