Nice looking book!
I don't get how everyone keeps saying the Transporter is 60. Yes I know Ben Pon make an 'idea' sketch in 1947, and half a dozen prototypes were
built in 1949, but the Transporter didn't begin production until March 1950.
The Beetle's birthday, for example, is regarded as 1938, the year it was ready to begin production in the new Wolfsburg plant, not when the first
design sketch was made (1935 or earlier?). Same with the Superbug - it was born in 1971, when it was first produced, not when design sketching began a
year or two earlier. The T2 Kombi? 1968 of course, even though design work began in 1966. The Golf - 1974, the year it began production, not when the
first concept drawings were done, in the late 1960s. It makes no sense for 1947 to be arbitrarily announced as the Kombi's birthday, when it wasn't
made until 1950.
It annoyed me so much I wrote an article about it - http://www.clubvw.org.au/kombi.htm
great book can not put it down
