Kombi parts? Hard to find!
kridderdida - November 24th, 2009 at 08:59 AM

Helloo, I am resurrecting my dads 78. It suffered 10 minutes of no oil by my brother and he rode the clutch from new to zero in 4 years.

Anyway, I am finding hard to get engine bearings and new front discs. These used to be in abundance 8 years ago, but then the korean cars started taking over our youth and everybody wanted subwoofers and neon lights under there car.

Are there any real parts suppliers left?

Any help? Anybody?

Apart from the aussieveedubbers forum sponsors, if you go to the newsagent, pickup a copy of the Volkswagen Magazine Australia (VWMA) there are a lot of suppliers and businesses listed that cover parts you would be after.

How's the cam? I'd suspect it is in need of replacement and I would consider getting something better than stock.

Wow, so many responses! I dropped the cam off at Wade Cams in Oakleigh, Victoria. $95.00 factory regrind, the machinists were really friendly. I was hoping for a Motor improvements mild cam grind, but he only works part time doing cam grinds for,,,,, CAMS! They do all the formula ford and vee grinds, he was booked solid till after christmas. Pity, brendon built shit hot motors with custom cams (motor improvements) for awesome prices. I miss that mob, his number is 0395558278, but like I said his time is rare. (brendon is a guru, don't waste his time dreaming)
I still need discs, big time. DBA stopped making them 4 or 5 years ago, and PBR gave them the flick as well. How will we survive???
I'm going to try and get ACL bearings from Repco, they are a good mob to support I reckon. i heard ACL were struggling and I will try and send some aussie dollars their way.
I read a lot of guys bin their engine case after a centre bearing shift, that is unheard of in aerospace. Anything metal that is sound structurally can be reclaimed and I gasped to hear of people binning cases so readily, if I had a line borer I'd have a go myself. CRIMINAL!!!! the shame!!

I went to my local brake parts place and bought a pair of discs for about 85-90 each , they had to order them in but no big deal , george at classic vw has all the parts aswell you might have to try him a couple of times a day as he is a busy man but great to deal with . 02 9638 4200.
