Has anyone here tried a stainless steel exhaust on their 2l kombi
i like the look of the ones on classic vw website - i am intrigued as to how they last and what they sound like and performance characteristics
thanks

I have one of those and found that it was slightly louder than stock, it lost the nice finish in a couple of months and has made no noticeable difference to the performance. Mind you, I'm sure that the exhaust change would have to be combined with better carbs, bigger valves and a better cam to make a performance difference!

i recently installed an extractor system on my bug,not stainless.i was going to go stainless but was told that they do not last as long and sounds can vary.I personally think unless its a show car with mirrors underneath it, a painted or ceramic system with chrome ends looks great.
good luck.

thanks for the comments

i had heard they don;t last as long as well

if the finish doesn;t stay i will go stock i think cos i want the camper to be quiet
the other car - the micro has custom twin pipes - one noisy one is enough

Stock VW exhausts are the best for 2-litre Kombis. They are designed for the vehicle's operating speeds, they are strong, quiet and compact, everything will fit properly, and they last for many years.

I painted mine with black stove paint before I put it on. The little tailpipe does rust a little bit, but it's easy to unbolt and repaint every 6 months or so.

I got a ful stainless system on my 2lt bus.It is quiet and still looks great after 12 months. They gold up a bit but thats stainless for you.I picked it up at classicveedub for about $400.
hope this helps.cheers

Yes the stainless changes colour with the heat, but if you wanted to keep polishing it i assume it would be still pretty,I cannot seee any reason that they wouldn't last. Be aware that most of the towbars will not clear these exhausts.
