omg omg omg omg.:starhit:

Joels72Lowlight - June 3rd, 2010 at 09:37 PM

Yes they made sliding doors optional after 1964.

This particular van was made in Germany then imported to Indonesia where it spent years working at the airport transporting pilots. Then was imported to Australia a couple of years ago, changed owners once andd then fell into my hands

Is the only KNOWN factory slider in Australia

reub - June 3rd, 2010 at 10:02 PM

Gaz did a shit load of work on that bus after buying it...so much for the honest seller he bought it from.

Think you've scored well.

devon57 - June 4th, 2010 at 07:16 PM

Mate you were in the right place at the right time:tu:
Very nice

Joel - June 4th, 2010 at 07:52 PM

Tastefully done :tu:
a few modern touches but still retaining that classic charm

Can I just make one observation, those late beetle wiper arms are probably a great safety upgrade (6volt wiper arms SUCK) but they look abit out of place
or is it just me that it glares at?
maybe painted silver instead of black?

Joels72Lowlight - June 4th, 2010 at 09:29 PM

Thanks Joel, Comfortable yet classic :D
Well I didn't notice them until now haha.
Might have to paint them silver. Tehy Don't suit the van at all.

Devon- Cheers mate, I was very lucky!

Edison - June 5th, 2010 at 11:33 AM

Well done Joel. I'm sure i speak for all of us when i say we'd like more pics of the interior. Is it a factory walk-thru? I looks so shiny that i bet you'll soon be looking for a new project to get down and dirty again :)

Joels72Lowlight - June 5th, 2010 at 07:21 PM

No, they actually the bulkhead:!: But I like the walkthrough so its all cool.

Its good to see your very happy with the new bus,she looks great nice colour combo i like it:) looks like the old panel will have to take a back seat for a while ??? if you want to sell the headlight baskets from the panel let me know:smilegrin: cheers shane.

PartyHatCentral - June 24th, 2010 at 01:40 PM

There are a number of these in Australia from what I can gather. I have also heard of a local twin-slider split in recent times - it never ceases to amaze me what's out there.

wilderness - June 24th, 2010 at 02:33 PM

Joels72Lowlight - July 9th, 2010 at 10:35 PM

Love the car and the pics. The first pic looks like those videos that guys did that made the news, the time lapse ones that look like they use lego people.

empi - July 10th, 2010 at 11:03 AM

There was a 75 Fleetline Splitty for sale in Vic a few months ago , had a sliding door.

If you go into the Patents office and do a search, you will find the blue prints for the VW bus sliding door dated 1962... Just another bit of useless trivia...
