Insurance, who's best?
Sam Smith - November 2nd, 2010 at 08:52 PM

Hello, I am new so forgive me if this subject has been covered before. Me and the Misses are looking to buy a Bay Camper that needs nothing doing to it and will be in tip top condition. Now we're realistic and expect to pay over $20k for the right bus. Having rung the NRMA they said the most they would insure a Kombi is $6k and suggested I call Shannons but I know that Shannons wont be interested if it's parked on the road, which it will be with a wheel clamp. I know it's a boring subject for a first post, but there you go. If anybody can help, thank you in advance. If anybody knows of any suitable Sydney-based campers then I'd be grateful for any lead. Cheers, Sam

Hi Sam,
There is a seperate Insurance for Classic Vintage and Veteran cars by the NRMA...
You have to go to that division.. [its not in the NRMA system]
its very similar to Shannons...

I've used both and are back with NRMA classic...
but never had to claim...
You work out what You want to insure it for..
if they agree... OK...

If Your car is written off, Both NRMA CLassic and shannons give You Your car back... free of charge...

cheers

LEE

I deal with Shannons and Lumley Special Vehicles LSV a lot, and have had experiences with both of them from owner and repairer sides in regards to insurance policy, claim, repairs, assessments, guarantees, parts etc.

I would say Shannons is the easiest to deal with in most ways. LSV has cheaper policy, with more restrictions. For example you cannot insure a vehicle parked on the street. Look up both of their websites, and ring them. Get your quote based on $20K value, which you will be able to get if you can provide pics etc to prove it.
