Ive just bought a spare parts bus (87) to fix up my 82 model.
To swap the brakes do I swap the stub axle out?
Pics would be great!
Im going to swap the booster over aswell if I can get a resivior to fit onto it.
Nik
If you are going to the trouble of removing the brake booster(nightmare),get a bigger one from a e30 BMW.Its the largest booster that will fit under there. The improved braking is worth the mucking around.
Thanks but I already have the late T3 one, and after my last drama with rta and brakes they wanted an abriged brake test that "will destroy pads
disks shoes drums and tyres at my expense and it may not pass"
So I,ll stick with vw stuff. But I,ll keep it in mind for after the blue slip
Nik
Ok,it was a RTA engineer that suggested to me.
Are the brakes that different? I thought the drums and cylinders were the same?
As far as I am aware the brakes are the same. The later South African t3 had larger front brakes.I am in the process of purchasing larger ventilated
discs and dual piston calipers from an Audi to fit to the front of my Syncro.
These kits are available in 2WD as well.
From what I can see the early T3s had small square shaped pads and the later models had larger cresent shaped pads. Not sure on the boosters though
justtold they are bigger?
The rta were ok with the swap but I had to prove they work and a standard brake test wasnt good enough

This was in a heavily modded sierra running 35" tyres. It was all done through an engineer but apparently he was doing doddgy reports on mini trucks
so they statrted checking his reorts.
Knock on the door sunday arvo buy the rta "be at the inspection station on wednesday lunch time" But I have to be at work "dosnt matter be there
or we will cancel your rego"
Just bad luck really I got caught in the crossfire between the rta and the engineer who although Id done everything right buy the engineer hed gave me
wrong info plus left off important info on the report.
My 2 reports got cancelled and I was advised to use a different engineer no refunds and fork out more $$.
So Im wary of mods and the rta now.
Nik
No recommendation for that engineer I suppose
This is after everything was plated?
Well the funny thing he got his license back so that must mean my reports are valid again..
Yep it was on my rego papers 2 seperate reports when they pulled them. Then the other engineers were to scared to touch it even though they said it
was right they didnt want to get scrutinized, same with trying to get pinkslips for it.
The inspector was very nice about the whole thing he admitted that it was well built and wasnt like he imagined from reading the reports even asked
about mods for his daughters sierra it was just the "system" that resulted in the 3rd rego coming up that Ive only driven in for a pinkslip.
Btw just read on KC that there were less air cooled T3s imported then splits
Nik
Im still looking around for info on how to swap late model calipers onto my early T3.
Does the bolt pattern line up ( I know I cold try but the bolts are siezed at the moment and I cant get them off) Ive heard wheel bearings are
different so cant swap the discs. To swap the lot do I go from the swing arm or just the ball joint? Not sure of correct names!

Nsw, there pretty strict on you guys up there hey.
Its running hilux diffs with spoa and ther rta were impressed with how low it sat on 35" tyres. I since lowered it a few more inches, low centre of
gravity is were its at!
