Hi everyone,
I've got a 77 van with the stock 2L twin carb engine.
For the last two weeks it's started with a strange problem, when I come to a stop at traffic lights etc the idle will drop way down, and sometimes
will stall, but if I give the throttle a blip it will go back to idling like it should.
Any ideas what this could be? I've checked for vacuum leaks, idle jets are clear and things like timing and points are all good.
Thanks,
Alex.
check your vacume hose to the break boster it may be leaking
Could be your automatic choke.
Make sure the wires are plugged into the two solenoids, one found on the right of the carb and one on the left.
Then make sure all of the wires are plugged correctly onto the coil.

Take your plugs out they will tell you,wet & black = choke. dry & white = air leak.
The idle air system operates off one carby and has tubes to both sides. Kind of like a parasitic idle system. Check it is operating correctly, and smooth idle should be happening. People try to set idle by upping one or both sides, but it is the single idle air bypass that does the job smooth and well.
Well i pulled the carbs off and found the throttle shaft on each side had HUGE amounts of play in them. I made up some new bushes out of brass and
rebuilt them. All seems good now!

Those solenoids were always a problem........checked everything else until it was suggested I check them. No problems thereafter.
