Any Kombis want to try a 5 speed?
Subarugears - January 29th, 2012 at 10:04 PM

At last year's VW nationals there was a great deal of interest from Kombi owners wanting to fit a Subie 5 speed & adaptor plate to their aircooled motor.

As my test adaptor plate and flywheel will be ready this week, I am hoping to find a Kombi owner that would like to fit a 5 speed and retain the aircooled engine.

The Kombi would have to be located in Sydney and be in good condition, certainly good enough to show at the Nats this year and maybe do a magazine article or two on. (but it doesn't need to be a show winner or anything).

The owner must be prepared to do the fitting and engineering of the combination as I don't run a conversion shop myself.

A number of successful 5 speed conversions have been completed in Kombis but with the Subaru engine, not a VW.

I have a fully built 5 speed available now and would come to the appropriate arrangement with the Kombi owner to supply the parts at an extremely agreeable price.

many thanks

What are the ratios?

Just curious, would one fit in an IRS type 3?

Nearly 100 views and no replies from any NSW Kombi owners? Do I have to offer it all for free and pay a shop to do the work? Just wondering...

I'm in qld as well and would love to. Currently running a modified 2L but am building a 2.7L type 4 that will make some decent ponies and plenty of torque.

I will keep bumping it for a while but we might just have to give a Queenslander a shot, seems to be a fair interest from there. The yanks are keen on doing it first but I say we do it in Australia instead.

No dramas, 'old bugger' has come through and got himself an unbelievable deal on a 5 speed. We should be showing this off at the Nats. Thanks for all the interest guys :-)

This sounnds pretty good. Do you have a ball park figure for the setup? I'm guessing your offering just the adapter, or are you going sell a box wih it as well?
