Hi all.
Just thought I would share some syncro fun I had with three other syncro nutters over the Christmas break. The location was Crescent Head and we drove
all the way down the Point Plommer mining track to Port Macquarie, had some lunch and a chin wag @ Hart's place in Port before returning to Crescent
via the well graded Maria River Rd.
We had awesome weather and packed in this syncro adventure on the hottest day we could have ever picked.
Loads of fun but my eldest daughter wasnt impressed.
Anyway enough babbling - here are the pics:
Syncro fully loaded with roof bag all our crap and the kids bikes:
The North Coast Syncro Crew @ Crescent:
Asphalt road soon turned into dirt then corrugated and large pot holed unkept track.
Here is some more track shots:

Then the ferry across the Hastings River:

That is a good trip down the Plommer road.
When we used to go there in the 70's while they were still mining rutile and the rutile works were maintaining the road, I have driven from the
camping area at Plommer (which is really barrie's Bay) to the ferry in 9 minutes - 70mph pretty much all the way (in a 69 beetle). People don't
believe me when I tell them, considering what the road/track is like now. :-)
Yes its a fun track and after heavy rain all of the craters fill with water making for many water crossings.
Need the snorkel in good shape for that one.
We try and squeeze it in every year just after Christmas usually in very early January.
Good weather this year meant not much water in the craters - only the odd deep shaded one here and there.
The track gets very narrow in places now - all that rain last year meant the buses are closing in!
I still cant imagine this track in good shape. I went through it in a T25 panel 2wd with a mate abount 18 years ago nad it was crap back then too -
but much better than it is now.
Cheers,
Scott
Yeah, it has had NOTHING done to it since the late 70's when the rutile mining finished.
I am normally up limeburners creek in early January - runs parrallel to the Plommer Road, about 2km West. We often walk out to the beach for a swim
and to get pippies for bait. I will have to check next year if I will be up Limeburners - I could walk out and meet you on the road if the dates line
up.
The road got rough after the rutile finished - I remembers seeing a bloke walking along it with his camping gear, and he even had the lid of his billy
tied down so it wouldn't rattle, the road was so rough.
At one stage, National parks filled a few of the bigger puddles, and the 'Broken Bit' (the farm you pass halfway down - owned by a yank - he calls
it a ranch ) complained loudly - apparently they had 100 head of cattle
watering in one 'pothole'
Hey Scott, great photos, always a great time Christmas on the North Coast.
Good to be on the road with a caravan of syncro.
Would like to do more, but work gets in the way.
Will be at Nambucca and will try to fit in Old bar this year too.
Be there again next year for our 3rd annual Picnic at Harts.
Btw Scott,my fuel ecomomy for my round 1300km trip was 23mpg thats 12.5l/100km.
How good is that!
Definately Ben.
It was great fun - lets pick a cooler day next year so the kids dont sweat so much - the kids seemed to enjoy themselves though - except my eldest
daughter didnt like the Plommer track much - too rough for her liking.
Great fuel economy by the way.
Got to gte me one of those 2.5 EJ scooby donks.
Cheers,
Scott
