wiring harness
nsuwift - January 8th, 2013 at 11:09 AM

Hi just wondering if anyone has used a universal wiring harness(such as painless, rebel or wire works). I am changing my notch to blade fuses mounted up under dash on front firewall. As my wiring is a birds nest of wires that are too short to reach the position I wish to mount fuses.

no easy solution to fit a new fuse box

I rewired My whole car.. lol

then added blade fusebox later..

the original wires are usually contaminated so cannot be soldered unless dipped in acid etc...
unless You are lucky and have good wires that can be soldered..

and extend them all..

or use screw in joiners... they come in about 10 all together in one piece... not expensive..
and all the wires are extended from the one place..

Thanks lee. Was thinking of this but was after something cleaner without joins. Maybe can use connectors temporarily while i build a new harness. Starting to get vw withdrawls:lol:

There's a NOS efi wire loom on eBay if you're keen.

My car is not efi would that matter.

im sure you could make it work but it might be a hassle to make it neat.
You can also buy car/year specific ones from isp west and jbug in the USA.

Are the ones from the states right hand drive?

Not sure if they are right hand drive.
But have read that they are designed
for front engined cars not rear.

nope. thats the problem. but they would be a good starting point and mod them a little to work rhd if its necessary.

I love making wiring looms. ones of the best bits I recon.

once you get half way you learn all the color codes by heart

if I am looking at the same loom, thats just the EFI loom not the body loom, they are separate things all together..

I've gone the full rewire using a "kwikwire" kit. can't fault it. never had to chase an electrical problem since:D
