so apparently volkswagen put thicker porsche rotors on type 3s for 72/ 73 . mine are down to about 8.5mm. will they pass rwc? and will they stop the car? if not, where do i get new rotors? isp dont have them listed, local qld supplier said may have to run with what i got. not too sure
I do not understand why you cannot get replacement rotors, I just put a set of 1500 beetle rotors that were drilled 5 x 130 on my type 34 that is fitted with a late model front end, just fitted straight on, the factory manual states that the disc thickness for the rotors for the 68 through 73 is 9.50MM to 9.45MM with replacement recommended at 8.50MM with a minimum of 8.00mm, the difference is the wheel centre ring in the casting which has been deleted on some models. Check this link out and you will see that these fit a lot of models. http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=VWC%2D311%2D405%2D583%2DA
the 72 and 73 used a larger diameter disk, the same part are used on the Porsche 914 and vw type 4. The front caliper were also the same across all
these cars which had wider caliper lug spacing, physically bigger I recall as well.
The disk is hard to find, but you can get them new. I don't know if you can even get them here in Oz, you may have to buy from over seas.
You could try brembo or DBA to see if they stock any or can get them in for you.
thanks for the link. noticed the ones you bought only go up to1971 for type3. found the later ones on that site... for double the price. typical. thanks again
thanks vlad01. will try to source them here first before i have to pay $317. u.s.
