Looking at a buying a resto 70s Volkswagen Type 3 Fastback which is a with auto transmission but as I want to have a manual apart from obvious pedals, trans, clutch cable are autos easy to convert to manuals, any help greatly appreciated for a VW noob but I do have resto and repair experience with Yank,Aust,European, etc Thanks
I'm no expert,... but from what I've read in the past it's easier to find a manual pan and swap them over.
I'm sure people who know will chime in soon.
thanks, but from what I have researched the main pan difference is the clutch cable tube, the manual shifter apparentely can bolt into the auto tunnel and of course the pedals need to be swapped, yes would be easy to swap pans but would have to find a manual one
Looking at an early 70's fastback Saturday, would be great for some advice regarding auto to manual change over and any other pitfalls to be mindful
of,
thanks
Afraid I don't know the difference in the pans, but I have three manual floor pans for sale complete with pedals etc.
You are welcome to buy one - or just come and take measurements so you can convert your pan.
Have plenty of Fastback, Notchback & Squareback parts for sale also.
Located at Greenbank on Brissy Southside.
Cheers,
Mark.
Mark, if I buy this fastback you might end up being my new best friend,it's not in the best shape with a alot of parts missing, but that's part of the fun
For more discussion on your topic,.. Here's a link to a thread over on Samba.

thanks Carl and Emily I did enjoy the reading the Samba thread, I am stuck on this car that I am looking at on Saturday, while is an auto, I want a manual,it has alot of good points, but also not alot of Type 3's about,I have driven alot of the super cars of the world and still find them abit boring in autos
