Allen Key door hinge bolt removal HELP!

HELP - For the life of me I cannot remove the Allen Key door hinge bolts on my type III. The bolts are starting to become rounded.

Ideas???? Please!!!

Hmm, how to describe this method that I have used , though not on hinge bolts. Get a small coal (cold?) chisell, sharpen it to a "blunt" angle (about 60-80 deg) then holding it on one side of the screw head and at an angle that will allow the chisel to bite into the head of the screw start taping it firmly so that it turns the screw in the direction to unscrew it (anticlockwise ?). The screw will loosen and then you can use the Allen key to finish the job. Mind you, the screw head will be stuffed. :rolleyes:

Yes Don its a cold chisel like Jimmy Barnes.. lol..

although I've never ever seen anyone using a HOT chisel.. lol

Thanks guys will give it a try however will be a task as bolts are set inside the pillar.

Make a flat head punch from a piece of 1/2" diameter steel x about 6" long. Give each screw a few hits with a hammer on the punch to break the rust on the thread and underneath of head. Maybe use an impact driver as well to undo screws.

Failing this get an M8 key (star spline) socket and hammer it in to the rounded allan key hole and unscrew.

M8 is the same tool to undo the IRS axle bolts

I can vouch for this method. Works well.


Also heating the head with blow torch works wonders but i think you might burn the paint on the car.

first tap the bolt on the head to scare (shock) it through the thread
works on most BIG bolts and a good vice grip can help when locked on well

vice grips wont be getting in where those screws are lol.
