hi, just started reassembling a 59 ghia hard top.
Apparently the original style seals with the chrome trim are no longer available and only the later model ones are still made.
I've bought the ones with a chrome t style trim that pushes into the rubber after its fitted. The trim has arrived flat ....the window is curved. So
either I have the wrong trim, or I'm supposed to bend it as I install it- I suspect this will look terrible.
Any got any experience with this?
where did you purchase the seals n trim from
From classic veedub
There are 2 types of rubbers one for the early style trim which is known as C profile and the later type that is T profile.
Both trims are curved to profile the glass and both trims are installed with the rubbers on the glass and fitted to the Karmann complete
No easy task
Cheers
David
You should ask the dealer ( Classic ) HOW TO FIT the trim
It shouldnt be flat
howdy, been there as have many others. c trim. and its worth every cent to get someone to fit em, that has done it before, i paid 300 for both screens, and after spending more than 8hrs and ruining 1 rubber myself............bla bla bla........ now its done and looks great

You have to bend the trim itself, I found it easier to bend the trim to the shape of the glass first and then to the window opening. Place the rubber on the window and then the trim and install the whole windscreen and rubber/ trim in one go
the seal trims should come like this, they are bent only in the internal corners and the rest of the trim is flat.
if you only mold the trim to the glass this will happen thr trim will pop out of the rubber as you are installing it
you need to bend thr trim to the glass first then to the body opening
then pop the glass in the rubber, pop the trim in there and fit the glass to the car... Done!
ok so its over simplified but you get the gist.
Awesome, thanks for the help!
Now I know what I'm doing on the weekend!
