6 -> 12v 65 notch
doublecabg - April 29th, 2015 at 08:04 AM

helloo.
My 65 notch has been converted to 12v by a previous owner but in need of some attention as sat for a long time.
Am in the process of making sure these 2 motors are expired before replacing.
Starter- as with many, 6v starter retained but this is now dead.
Step down installed with the wiper motor but this also appears to be dead- making sure this isnt a wiring issue.

If I end up replacing:
I'd like to install a 12v starter- so are my options: grind bell housing or have a shop convert a 6v for me?

Will a later 12v type 3 wiper mechanism fit up in the same place or mods required? Or is it possible to just switch the wiper motor on the wiper mechanism. If I can get the 6v working with existing stepdown i wont bother but just in case.....

any advice vey welcome.

As for gearbox clearance... See my members ride here: http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=106947&page=1

I had to do this as i was putting a 12v flywheel into a 6v gearbox... So i got some 2 X 60 grit sandpaper flapper wheels on the drill to clear the bell housing...

Also, i started a thread here: http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=106941&page=1#pid998445

Hopefully this all means something to you..:)

But be very careful grinding the gearbox as the little shavings catch fire very easily and you cant put out with water :!:

to change to 12V starter you need to change the flywheel (different amount of teeth on each), grind gearbox for clearance and change starter bush , which you should change if replacing with another 6v starter anyway.
