Karmann ghia speedo cable
rothko78 - May 9th, 2015 at 08:49 PM

As the title states need some guidance on my speedo cable.

Car didn't have one in it so no idea where to route it.
Does it go to the drivers side or passengers side wheel

Any tips on how to do it?

Thanks

The cable is longer than the beetle unit and I believe the type 3 unit will fit,it goes in the L/H hub and locates the inner in the grease cap. The cable is fitted from the top and runs across the top of the fuel tank down the inner guard to the l/H stub axle. I am assuming it is an early sixties unit,if you need some help let me know and I will help.

Ah ok. Will have another crack at it.
It's a 1960 model.
I was looking on the drivers side but couldn't see where it feeds through the back of the drum.

will need a clip or split pin to retain it in the capping

There is also a seal with a steel ring in the back of the stub axle, this has been superseded by the top hat shaped seal to go into the back of the stub axle to prevent gunk getting in to the bearings.
