Is this Notch still around?
1500S - June 26th, 2007 at 10:41 PM

This 64 Notch was around some 6 or 7 years back at Nambucca. Anyone know if it still exists? It was restored by a guy in the Blue Mountains area and was sold to someone around Sydney.

Why so you say that?

Must add that last I heard of it a dog had jumped all over it and caused quite a bit of damage not long after Nambucca. Memory seems to have had it residing somewhere around Ingleburn, NSW. Can't remember the guys name but could have been "Steve". Last name=??????

There is one that looks just like that up the road from me.

Hey guys.
No, the Notch hasnt gone to the UK and never will while I own it. Its sitting in my garage awaiting new paint. Now has 17" Porsche Cups on it and very early lowback Porsche seats waiting to be retrimmed...
Want to put in another motor. ALMOST put in an EA82T but regretfully sold it. Now Im not sure what to do..
Cheers,
Hutcho.

G'day Hutcho - can you give me a bit of info how you squeezed the 17in porsche wheels into the guards? I am restoring a notch for a fellow (thread in members rides) and he is keen on some bigger wheels but I know how much trouble I had fitting the turbo twist 17s on my beetle (narrowed front end, spacers etc), and was worried the type III would be even harder!

Any pics as well? I understand if you want to keep it under wraps (you can email them to me if you prefer - I won't post them...trust me!).

Cheers in advance
Alan

Dallas,
I purchased the car about a quarter of the way through Rob Hildon restoring it. I had to find a couple more NOS guards which I done and I had to restore the IRS pan...Yeah, I used to live in Ingleburn but Im now over in Sutherland Shire. My friend dog did jump all over it trying to reach my dog who was on heat on the 1st floor balcony. Didnt do too much damage but did scratch the s!@t out of it:(

Tinman, Thanks, mate! Will be back bigger and much better soon...

Steve, Yeah, Ive been toying with the idea of bolting in an EJ20T. Ill have to do a lot more research though as Im not too sure on the total cost and Im not keen on cutting the body. Ive been grabbing VW engine parts when they come up so I may go down the traditional route and look at a conversion later. For now, Ill have to settle with my GT Forester for turbo performance..

Alan. To be honest, they fit in without too much trouble. I had to buy two sets, keep the four front ones then sell the rears. The rears had to be spaced out 6mm. The tyres on the rears are 205/50's and the fronts are 205/45's. The pan is IRS. Ill be converting the front brakes to 944T but so far, they fit OK! Mind you, its only rolling at the moment so things MAY change.. Anyone interested in my redundant Fuchs??

Cheers, guys. Thanks for the interest...
Steve.

Yep. Know Rob well Steve. Met you at Nambucca that year you had it there. The dash pad was one I had spare... re skinned but never used so gave it to Rob as swap for other bits for the S. How did the pad survive after all these years? The one I had skinned by another company near Bankstown has bubbled a bit near the speedo.

Keep at it and get it back on the road!

Hi Dallas,
Yeah, I do remember you..If you still see Rob around, please let him know I said "Hi".

Re the dash pad, it still looks like new!

Thanks for the encouragement and take care.

Steve.

If it's a 68 in the same colours, then that's my old car from Canberra. I painted it that colour back in 97 for the new owner who moved to Melbourne. It was originally beige & had no rust anywhere. I can fish out a picture but don't think anyone's really too bothered.

Cheers, Dave
