Who does complete Hella H4 units to slap straight into my 71 Fasty. My reflectorsm are rooted so just want a nice clean unit so I can throw in the new HID globes and hopefully see the corner coming before Im on it!

Thanks, Andrew

Hi

Most of the replacement reflectors are crap and only take the old style bulb. Try you local parts guy for 7 inch Hella H4 semi sealed beams. These are easy to adapt to you mudguard using a 7 inch sealed beam base from a Mini etc.

I always use Hella H4 semi sealed beams and use a headlamp bucket from an early ford...
and with a bit of fiddling they can be used...
then use Hella/Narva Plus 50 bulbs
these give out 50% More light on Low beam and 30% more light on High beam,
but only use the same current as the standard bulbs
60/55w..

I've also used Hella H4 sealed beams in VWs...
but if You blow a bulb You can't replace it...

All VWs in North America had sealed beams as standard...

Hi Lee

The sealed beams in US cars were very low spec, about as low spec as local stock VW headlights. Most VW mudguards come with the 3 little brackets in the headlight bucket to fix the sealed beam to.

Any reason why I cant use Bay Kombi H4 lights? Roy from Buststop has Hella H4 for $99 each. If I get these am I still having to modify with brackets etc, I thought they would sit in where the old are taken out?

Hi

You can use the bay window ones, just make sure that they are good quality, but they use the old style bulb, you can only get quartz halogen in them bulb type I'm pretty sure.

Steve, from my understanding the good Hella ones take the 3 prong style bulb which means they can take the new style white light globes (HID).

Hi

Its all good then if that's the case. I bought a set new reflectors once, the headights were good on low beam, on high beam the beam spread everywhere and produced less light than the low beam.
