I have exactally the same problem, I have a small rust hole just forward of the vent which lets water in. If I have the door open and lightly spray water along where the guard meets the body I get water inside. I can't see anything but there must be a rust hole where the guard meets the body, I'll have to strip the guard off sometime in the future to find and repair this. This has been driving me crazy trying to find this.

Rust is one problem but also blocked drain pipes and leaking seal from body to vent tray.

The box has a pipe that goes down the bulkhead and out of the car to drain water away

thought that was the pipe thats blocked off from the inside ane the box has been removed for the time being so it cant be that.
Thanks For the advise though
