I don't know if this particular one is, but they were a factory item. According to "Knowing Australian Volkswagens" (Dave Long & Phil Matthews) VW Australia started making them in 1965 & they were sold for a bargain 995 pounds. They were unique in the world apart from the local German market.

Matt.

if it is factory they are extremely rare as most of them led a hard life.

Someone should buy this, it would be one unique veedub

I think this is what an original panel should look like

I think it actually says that it's a custom jobbie.

vwtyp2 - December 6th, 2007 at 09:24 PM

yeah, that's definately not a factory panel.
a factory panel looks like this.

kroozzn63 - December 6th, 2007 at 09:39 PM

yeah should have window impressions like that pic

Looks like the factory ones just have a steel panel instead of glass inserted in the usual rubber seal? - If that's the case then anyone could make one. I think I prefer the finish of the custom job.

Matt.

i agree, it would be nice to have an original but i like the look of the custom job..... would be better on an early model tho.
