better performance question
type3kid - February 6th, 2008 at 09:28 AM

hey all.

the way things are looking i'll be keeping my 66 fasty and using it as a get around car. i think it has a twin carby, not sure if 1500 or 1600, the more knowledgable people will be able to inform me
anyway, all this going to plan i am keen to give it a bit more go without doing major engine mods and spending a fat lot of cash. i'm selling my polo GTI so i've gotten used to that extra bit of power from my 72 notch i previouisly had. i know i won't get the same kind of power but wouldn't mind a bit more then standard. also, will i need to upgrade my brakes?

also want to lower the damn thing, is it easy, hard, a home job or give to a workshop to do for me??

cheers

Its always hard to get Type 3s going as the weight disadvantage compared toa Beetle is the big let down

you carnt do much to them without spending funds

extractors and dissy is about it as you already have twin carbies maybe some ratio rockers would go on as well

type3kid - February 7th, 2008 at 09:28 AM

thanks for that dave.

what are webbers for type3's worth and are they woth it?

you said dissy, what does a stock have in it and what is the best one to get?

vw54 - February 7th, 2008 at 10:54 AM

I dont know 4 sure but you might get a 2nd hand set but would be scarce to find the mainifold are short as you could imigine

you can get 009 fitted with an electronic module that would be best compufire brand

Tazz - February 7th, 2008 at 12:04 PM

You can get the short Manifolds straight from the Empi dogalog. I think from memory you can get the whole kit for about $1500 maybe a little less.
As for your brakes.... Nah.. already disk's on the front.
It should be a 1600tp so you might think about maybe 1641 barrel kit too.. no need to bore anything out. just a matter of replacing the barrels and pistons and bolting the heads on.
And like dave said.
009 fitted with an electronic module that would be best compufire brand and maybe some ratio rockers.

thanks for the info guys. either way lokks like i have some research and work to do. glad the brakes will hold up. not really mech minded tazz so not sure how i'd go doing the barrells so have to get someone to do that for me.

any ideas on lowering?

vw54 - February 7th, 2008 at 01:19 PM

both front and rear can be lowered but u need the knowledge and tools to do it

with your engine theres no substitute for capacity but it costs

type3kid - February 7th, 2008 at 02:44 PM

thanks again dave, i think i've learnt quite a lot today!!

i sent an email to CBB regarding a 1776 complete. thinkiong it may be easier to do it that way, at least it comes with warranty.
