hey guys,
am currently considering purchasing a 1962 original rhd karmann ghia convertible.
(and yes it is the car currently for sale on uniquecarsales....)
have driven it and had it inspected and so far it checks out.
apparently it was imported in 1965 to australia and has been owned by the same person ever since. it has had a recent restoration, but from what i saw
and the mechanics opinion is that it is rather straight.
does anyone recognise or know anything about this car perhaps?
any advice or info would be greatly appreciated....
(did try to post pic, but my rookieness got the better of me....)
oh and slightly random question, but the car has a driver's side
door mounted mirror?!
i thought early Karmann's had fender mounted mirror?
it's only a minor detail, but hoping someone here could clarify this....
cheers,
miko
I'm no expert
but wing [fender-guard] mirrors were a UK thing....
also Japanese thing...
send Your photo to someone and they can put it on here for you...

I just found a pic of a 1959 Karmann Ghia cabriolet
and the mirror is mounted on the body just below the bottom of the windscreen and just above the antenna..
a nice shaped alloy mirror...

My 62 Coupe is on the fender.

early ghias were on the fender and later ones on the door, it may have been changed during restoration, get some close up pics and i should be able to tell you
All Type 1 Karmann Ghia's had wing mounted mirrors on the driver side until about 1965, when they changed to the door mount with a threaded stud (
same as Type 3's and late beetles). The one on this car is not an original KG mirror.
Also in one of the pics it looks to have a filler flap above the Right fender rather than under the bonnet, or is this just a shadow ??
Do you have a chassis number for the car to confirm the build year ? Cheers, Pat.
My 61 is on the door[img][/img]
Someones fitted it in the wrong spot, must be hard to use in that position
After looking at the photos...
the door mirror looks like the later model shape...
and it also seems to have a fuel flap on the RHS fender/guard.
nice car...

The yellow late model Karmann Ghia on that site says ita a semi auto - but it has a clutch pedal and no sight of any semi auto stuff in the engine
compartment....
