Full flow oil system on type 3 motor? Where do you tap into the case on a type 3?
Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks Ben
Same as on a type one, but some mods to the fittings required. Very hard to plumb around the fan housing and rear support bar. Easiest way is to get a Berg kit so it goes together properly.
Where do i get a Berg kit and how much? Thanks matberry
Vintage may get one for you {02 97891777) or order yourself from Gene Berg Ent in the states. http://www.geneberg.com/product_info.php?cPath=2746&products_id=447

Don't click on the first link on the page though(malware)
Great thread on samba. Prefer the one half way down the page, both lines plumbed into the main oil gallery. I thought the Berg setup was better than those pictured. I've done a few over the years and the best was copper pipe extensions with a flare and gland style fitting. Finding something that suits is time consuming as different fittings are often hard to come by.
Heres what I did to my motor, I went through the fan housing with this one (not enough time, money or patience). Seems to work fin and I do not have
any issues with cooling. I reworked the part of the fan housing I removed by using fibre glass matting (no photos though, I'm too ashamed)
The only problem I had by doing it this way was the outlet pipe was the lowest point of the engine. got snagged a couple of times but only whilst
getting the engine in and out.
So dont do it how I did it
Hah looking at the huge pictures I've posted, note the awefull clearancing I did with the top oil pump bolts. Honestly they didn't make a drill bit
big enough in those days.
I was using a 30mm melling oil pump too, never got the dam thing to seal against the case so was always leeking oil. but as the saying goes "an oily
engine is a happy engine"
It gets better......
Yes that is black electrical tape sealing the return fitting thread
