Hey all,
Ok i just scored myself a second Karmann Ghia at a bargain price...(i think...yeah i did)
Anyway as with any bargan there's always a reason why. Most of the car is solid...half even sanded back to metal. A few bits of rust floating
around but nothing major. Not like my first karmann i got a month or so ago.
The main problem is that the previous owner to the person i bought it from has cut 3 of the tyre arches to make it ready for rallying. Something he
never did...thank God!
This car is all complete but still needs a fair bit of work. Nothing like my first red one which i don't regret buying in the slightest seeing as
all the chrome work is immaculate, it has a 1600 engine ill be using as well as any other goodies i can use etc.
So the question is, whats the best way to go fixing my wheel arch delemer? Do i make a template from my other car and use it to make some repair
panels in sheet metal, or do i just buy all the rust repair panels over seas and puzzle them together?
Please vote for my first solution
Any guidance would help greatly as i hear this is a common occurrence.
Cheers!
Ant
pic would help with the advice!!!!
matt
thanks Matt!
Ill probably take a few tomorrow or when it arrives. The arches have had flares put over them also that ill be taking off rather quickly...i thought
i could live with it for a while but i have come to the conclusion very fast that i hate them....
Ant
lol, without seeing it i would make a template and refabricate the missing part of the panel and weld it in, or leave the flare on for now
matt
yeah thanks Matt....i was hoping that would work but wasn't sure whether the slight curve on the panel would be hard to achieve, as well as the inside lip that gets folded around the arch. Ill be leaving it for a while till i complete my 8 week tafe welding course. Should be good....
