Please help, can't get these odd seats out
1500S - September 19th, 2009 at 11:36 PM

"Someone put these seats in my fastback and they wont budge! any Ideas?
Photo's provided to help".

The seats look like the ones the factory put in there. At least the bases are.

No spring holding seats to body runners on up to 72 Type 3s!

New plastic runners are available from the US if the ones on your car are broken.

in your fifth photo there is a long clip type of thing on the runner. pop the end out that is going into the hole.
then they should come out the rest of the way. hope that helps. (worked for me)

There is a protrusion on that side of the seat base which bumps against that spring to prevent seat moving forward off the rails accidently. DEPRESS this spring into the hole so that the protrusion can slide over the top of it to get the seat completely off the rails.

Maybe rusted a bit by the look of the rest of the floor! Maybe the plastic runners aren't there or have broken up causing seat to lock on runners.

I had exactly the same problem onlya couple of weeks ago on my Notch....thanks to Splitmeister, out they came! :D

The spring clip, shown in photo 5, the one held in witha rivet.....press this down while pushing the seat forward, it allows the seat to pass over it and be removed from the car. Many thanks to the sneaky VW designers, it was something that wasnt immediately obvious!! :ninja:

As 1500S as said above, the plastic runners on mine were pretty shot too....that definitely didnt help them move too easily either :D

Hope all goes well!

Thanks Guys, Any idea where these seats might have come from??

as mentioned above, these are the original factory seats for your car.
The outer plastic runner is there, try some WD-40 or similar to loosen as they are very tight and bind when rusted. You also need to lift the side plastic lever at the same time as pushing to release the seat position.
I would recommended getting a Haynes workshop manual, which covers a lot of these jobs in good detail with plenty of pics, enjoy the build.

Thanks for that everybody,

They are now out of the car and will be rebuilt.
I appreciate the help.
