gsa2at - September 21st, 2009 at 09:06 PM

scuse my ignorance - i was noting my mates type 3 wheels are wider with 195 tyres on them
i was hoping to put wider wheels on my rat beetle - do type 3 wheels fit on a 1968 4 stud beetle ??
if so any one have 2 i could buy or swap for ?

type3 were 4.5"
the bug ones were 4" up till 72 then were 4.5" like type3 after that but yes they will fit
make sure you get a matching pair, type3 have different offset to bugs

195 is still abit to wide to have safely on 4.5" rims
not many tyre shops would fit them

Yes,
I agree..
195s are still too wide for 4.5 inch rims...
You really need wider rims..

stand corrected - spoke to don - they are actually 185s - still would look better than 165s

if anyone has some 4.5 inch wheels handy to the sunny coast qld - i would take them off your hands
OR modified 6 inch wheels with stock centres

I run type 3 rims with 145's 15 78 on the front of my 72, 165's 15 80 on the rear. With the larger offset of the t3 rims and the smaller tires it gives the fronts a slightly narrowed look. I dig it!

Anywho, I have a couple of T3 rims ,4.5''x 15 et 46 spare if your interested. I am on the Bris southside though. They are pretty crusty but still good to use. A good clean up and a paint and they would look passable/good. Their yours if you want them.
