!. Anyone here with a 66 Square?

2. Anyone with a 71 Square (not a late 71 build 72 model!)

I have a 71 as well as several earlier, but no 66 squareback, can probably help if you have another question ;)

ok! This is the next question. Can you go out and take one screw out of the popout latch of the 71 and tell me if it is a self tapper or an M4 as per Notch.

If you have a pre 69, what is the screw type in that one?

Even though I've owned a 67 (too long ago!) I never removed the popout so don't know what screw was holding the latch. I have removed the popouts from some 70-71 Squares and they had self tappers if my memory is right. Just checking for someone but want to be sure.

1969, 1968 used self tappers. 64 wagons and 1966 fastbacks used metric screws.
Not sure of the change over year to self tappers, but ? 1966 or 67 for the wagons.
I'm sure the 1970 also used self tappers, which was the last model year for pop-outs.
By 1971 flow through ventilation was being used, with venting slots in the rear pillar ( and perfect for encouraging rust )

Thanks for that. I thought the early ones used the M4 metal thread screws but wasn't sure of up to when. Same with the 71 model. Wasn't sure if the popouts were discontinued the year before the 72 high back seat model was introduced or two years. One of the septic tanks has a 71 (maybe it's really a 70 and was sold in 71) which he says had popouts from the factory and one screw in each latch is stripped. My memory is that they are self tappers. Suggested Nutserts but seems like they need convincing with a piece of 4" x 2" !!:)
