Hi
It should be a 1600 twin port engine...

You need to buy some workshop manuals.... ebay has them...

also.. buy Your spark plugs points leads-special VW type-
and oil change gasket kits from a VW SHOP...
like Mick Motors etc... Vintage VeeDub Classic Vee dub etc

engine takes around 2.5 litres of Castrol GTX2 engine oil
[cheapest at BIG W] buy 5 litres..

also check out distributor cap and rotor inside the dizzy..
and a spare condensor won't go astray...
also a spare fan belt.... a MUST HAVE...

don't forget the tappets need to be adjusted ....
Best to find how to do this job Yourself....
and do it every 2nd oil change... change oil every 3000 miles
maximum... I do mine every 1000kms...

You will need two tappet cover gaskets...

check out Rob & Daves website... excellent...
a 1600 beetle engine is basically the same as a beetles 1600..

You will need Your engine number to order the parts for Your engine... tappet/ sump gaskets/plugs are the same as beetles.. All these parts will be much cheaper at a VW Shop than Repco etc.. and the proper parts..

cheers

Rob and Dave's pages are at:

http://www.vw-resource.com

Rob is on Here .. He;s located in South Australia...

bosch W5AC SPARK PLUGS

THE VW type wire spark plug leads last for a long time..
must be used with the rubber seals over the spark plugs..

the silicone type leads break down due to the heat in the engine bay..

best to take Your car to a VW shop as they will need to know what distributor You are running...
