Need some basic help
dannyphoenix - July 9th, 2010 at 12:05 AM

G'day all !

Just need some basic info, for what should a fairly basic task.

The front left headlight park light globe, on my 1974 fastback likely needs replacing.

So I take out the big screw out of the chrome headlight assembly rim. . . won't come out, even with some encouragement from a screwdriver to jimmey it.

So I take out the other two screws as well, and I pull forward, I pull up, I jiggle it . . . well you get the idea !

Anyhow it is still FIRMLY stuck ! So before I get PRIMEVIL on it.

Can anyone please suggest, What cruel joke this (what should be an) easy task, is playing on me ? How do I get the *#!^% headlight assembly off ? Should I just introduce it to the big mallet ? :grind:

Thanks

Undo the bottom screw only, the other 2 are for adjusting.
With mine I had to use a screw driver , at the bottom and lift up and out.
Good luck.

Yep, some times they're stuck like a beauty.....lever from the bottom, out and up, try not to hurt the paint. :)

Since the adjusting screws are now out, the rim may come out with all the rest falling everywhere.....careful....

Stick a piece of rubber under a flat head screwdriver, then lever it up from the rim where you took out the big screw at the bottom.

Tanks a tonne !

Coulda gotten ugly.

Found that the faulty light assembly was different than the comparative right one. A previous owner had broken a mounting tab, and so turned the inner dome upside down to hold it all together against the springs tension. He had then bodgied an earth wire to connect around to where it shoulda gone, and that was what no longer was connecting. That bodgie negative connection was just hanging loose. . . So I corrected the set up back to original, holding it in place with a fashioned brace. . .

Now I have a spare park light globe !

So thanks to you all, I had heaps of me time to spare. I took off the engine bonnet, took it down to the paint people to colour match. I'll collect it tomorrow, and paint the various small bodyrepairs.

Also I got to replace all the fuel hoses, because they were bleeding petrol quite badly . . . and even found a full set of four studded, white star mags for sale. Now I better save fast before they're sold.

Busy day, Huh ?

Thanks again guys
