I have a set of empi 5 spokes and was wondering whats the best tyres to get. I have seen ghias with a set of Yokohamas but the tyre looks pretty close to the body. Is there any rules in the esafety check about cleareance between the tyre and body?
165s on the rear, they will bolt on if yr car is pre 64 (Thinner drums) later u will need an axle swap, or jack up the car to get clearance.
i have 195 / 50 / 15 yoko's on mine & yes it is close to the gaurds, look for something a little narrower

175/65/15 nankang's.... i'll post some pics of the square when the new ones are fitted sautrday.
these are 205/60/15's one rear and 205/50/15 front
these are 165/80/15's on the square now but changing

The square has the thinner drums hence being capable to lower, the fasty would rub on the tyres if u were to lower.
Here is my 63 with 5s
Its for a karman ghia ;-) 165x15 which are the standard tyre I expect you have on it will fit the 5 spoke. more modern tyres are better as they will
be wider and give you more grip. On the note of clearance I don't think any blue slip place will worry as long as you look safe.
welcome to the forum by the way
Tyre tread is the main thing they look at , depends on yr gearbox axle tube length (Short up to 67 longer 68 +) i haave fitted 185/55/15s on a lowered Karmann with 5s without too much issue..... keeping in mind all KGs are hand built and body work can differ.
