Matty v - July 29th, 2010 at 03:41 PM

Hey lookng for some help, i need to put new front seats in (original or otherwise) as when i removed the carpet, the seats were mounted with blocks of wood and all different pieces of crap:grind::grind::grind:.
There doesnt seem to be the slides on the tunnel, What and or how can i mount seats? original or other wise.
Also where can i get seats to suit? Am just restoring at the moment with a view to do up maybe later in life.

Any help greatly appreciated as this all ineed to do to re rego her and then start on the paint and doing up my spare engine.

New to Vee dubs but hooked already.

sound like either its not the original floor pan or the rails were ground/cut out.

the 73 model was different to all other type 3 seat rails. I have been looking on google images for like 30min but can't find not one related image :grind:
Why would anime come up when searching "1973 vw type 3 seat rail" stupid google

Painfull, rails/slides are sort of there, all bent and yucky???? Must haqve had a brain laps as she's a 1970 not 73 sorry, must have been reading about a 73!
really would like to try and keep original for a while so want the origianl set up if possible other wise are there any other options with mounting seats that you know of????
Guess you cant just bolt some sort of rail to floor as no strength?

I know what your talking about. the earlier rails are crap imho. break very easy

I am just going to replace mine with some after market rails and fit maybe a pair of scat procar seats.

My driver seat is still factory condition yet one of the rails is half broken. The 73 rails are awesome ;)

not sure i just will deal with it when it come to the time.
Welding best bet i recon. Bolting rails in with thin sheet metal as a vw does will just rip out
during a crash.

be aware that if you replace the rails you need an engineers to make it legal.

Could you post a couple of pictures of the pan? We may be able to get a better idea of what has been done that way and advise accordingly. You may also want to ask this over on the SAMBA site in the US. There cars have plenty of rust and quite a few have rebuilt there's from the bottom up. They may know more info on what to do
