Ordered some custom gauges from UK!
vlad01 - August 5th, 2010 at 07:34 PM

Sold my instrument set in my notch few days ago. And now with the good pound to au exchanged, called up ETB instruments in the UK and ordered some custom gauges.

Should be in my hands in a 2 weeks or so.

My tacho will be in the middle replacing the old speedo
and the new speedo will replace the clock.

Actually I will use the new speedo and fit it into the inside of a gutted clock I have here, so it will look symmetrical with the fuel gauge.

Can't wait :dork: I should also point out that it wont be an exact fit just yet. haha CNC router time:lol:

unrelated to the UK made gauges, I just got a notice card in the mail and have to pick up a parcel on monday. I bought a Porsche 912 tacho 8 weeks ago
but not long ago realized it would not fit as i made the mistake of confusing the beetle dash size of 115mm instead of the type 3 105mm.

So in other words I will have a 912 tacho to suit beetle for sale soon. Will post up pics soon as I get it.

they are here

The ones are the 2 on the left.

You can see the inner bezel, ring and clock body I have kept for the speedo. I am going to latter on do some custom work to fit the bezel and chrome ring
so that it matches the fuel gauge. you get an idea what it will look like in the pic with the fuel and speedo side by side.

These gauges are quite high quality. Even the glass is well glass :dork:
All up including postage it came to $422 AU. Not bad considering they came from the UK were the currency is GBP.

They look real nice mate!

How is the speedo driven? Standard cable operation or some sort of transducer?

I'd like to put something nice and new in mine, but I'll have to make do with the home resto I did on the OG ones.

ummm? driven via transducer or hall effect . Fully programmable.

As for the tacho, its 100mm and the OG is 105mm. So i have to make a spacer ring to hold it in place. Like a giant washer with 101mm ID and 110mm OD.

Hi

They look great, like retro factory VW. Its so good to have an electrictronic speedo so that you know 100% that your doing the correct speed. I have SPA speedo in my sons car, also from the UK.

Mine new speedo reads higher ;) haha But in all seriousness, any shots of the rear of the speedo? Be interested to hear how you drive it etc, as i will come accross the problem to get my new one to work!
