Well, appears I am to be selling off my 73 square daily driver and the 72 parts car. Have been collecting parts for a rebuild but no longer think it
possible for me.
No where to to store things, no time to be off the road.
Ex wants parts car gone as she just bought a new car (understandable)
As I have to do all driving to pick up, drop off and see the kids it just isn't economical, plus the daughter gets real car sick in it.
So applied for a car loan today. Will find out Monday if approved. So if I get it someone's going to get a bargain. the parts car has no beam but can
be dragged on to a trailer. have in total three motors. new ball joints, tie rods, steering box and front bearings. (not fitted) from the time I find
out about the loan I will have two weeks left to clear it all.
I would like to say thanks to everyone here for the help and inspiration. I have enjoyed every minute. I still love my car and it is with a heavy
heart I go back to the mundane vehicle driving herd, but kids come first.
Expect to see the add Monday Night
I fail to see how a car loan is more economical than the petrol bill of a Type 3. It just isn't. Your car is bought and paid for, and they're really
not that thirsty, especially in terms of old cars. I'm not sure what yours does but my '73 Squareback did significantly better than 10l/100km on a
trip, and the engine was knackered. They do get a bit thirstier around town, although no more so than a 90s Commodore or any other sensible family
car. If I was you I'd definitely keep it.
My general policy with cars is never to pay interest or depreciation. That means, no car loans and no modern stuff. Your money is better off invested
in owning a classic car than lining a bank's pockets!
Sad news - any chance you could keep the square as a longer term project (even if you get a newer car for daily duties??). Do you think you'll end up
regretting it down the track if you let it go?
Good call with putting the kids first though
Hope it all works out for you.
No good mate.
Hope your situation gets better soon.Ya gotta do what ya gotta do sometimes.
Ex's.............Theyre a different breed of human
Best of luck
