looks awesome, you will find this thing has air bag susp, it would be pumped up a bit to drive it and dropped to look like that

eeeekkk ! each to their own I guess!

Thought it might be air suspension.
It seems very hard to get a kit to
suit a type three. I know air kewled
in the states has a kit for type 1 bugs.
And ddb has type three kits but have
no information on there website. I
assume you would still have to run a
narrowed front beam and possibly
beetle axles in the rear?

Narrowed beam & early axle tubes.... lots of work

naylor_james - September 21st, 2010 at 05:49 PM

Honestly man I've spent the last month looking for big wheels narrowed beams airbag suspension talking to dudes from America, costa rica even tried showwheels and budnik wheels and simply put it's a shitload of work.. Hardly anyone over here deals with narrowed beams etc etc... Get a set of 15's like I am that way it will be lower too.. And to be honest after Allll the research I've done I must say old volks look odd with low profile tyres... If your keen though keep digging it can be done with a type 1 beam and beetle rear axle tubes... If you do find something let me know though!!

I think they look great, but the ride would be terrible. If it was a cruiser it'd be all good, but a daily driver..... no

The front wheel wells need a fairly large amount of work to get 17s into them and drive at a low height. I have photos around somewhere of the work that was done to get 17s into a type 3, ill see if i can find it

Doctor - September 23rd, 2010 at 06:24 PM

While not a fairly large amount, its not a small job either...

Scarab - September 23rd, 2010 at 09:57 PM

fair bit of work there....and it looks like a type 1 beam too....bit more than an afternoons work I reckon!
