Check what turned up after work
Xmas time! Everything came as expected, well except the spare wheel panel. I and the seller missed this one and took me ages to realize . Its the wrong model? Must be 68 and 69 or when ever they have the side fuel flap and still had short nose front. Thats for sale as of now lol

vlad01 - December 19th, 2010 at 07:01 PM

I figured that the one in the car is straight as, apart from the rusted bottom.....So... I guess to make the job easier I would only
need the bottom section. I still have rust free panel for in from the donor body I bought off ben but its very mangled and I can't even tell what the
original shape used to be:lol:

zocstar - July 27th, 2011 at 09:24 AM

When you finish this it's looking like it's gunna be better than a new one off the production line. But how much have you spent already??

Have you started work on it yet??

vlad01 - July 27th, 2011 at 06:31 PM

spent over 5-6 k so far with no work done or possible at this stage.

restoring all the small bits first and going to build one hell of a front beam and brakes including the rear brakes.

Then front bumper, brackets and apron, wheel bucket

Then interior and seats, pedals etc..

Rear frame hopefully. still don't know what gearbox to base it on.

Then finally pan and fuel system.

Engine.

Body.

Then final assembly brick a brack.

vlad01 - August 12th, 2011 at 06:15 PM

New bits.

vlad01 - October 8th, 2011 at 07:40 AM

Bert from Belgium. aka BerT3.

Don't know how many he has left. This is his 2nd run of 50 pairs. Took him a year to get these ready. Last 50 batch was made in 07.

I got No 66 :spin:

only $750-800 depending on the exchange rate. Bargain I say

Quality is -10 to No 1.

Love the dropped spindles. Does Bert3 give any specs on the dropped spindles?.... Forged?, Forged spindles into cast bodies?, or completely cast? It's difficult to tell in the pics as they have had lots of machining done to clean them up.

It's pretty cool someone has made the effort to make these for Type 3's anyway. Well done getting some, will try to get some for my 69 square.

Looking forward to seeing an all out resto on a late Type 3.

vlad01 - October 8th, 2011 at 08:26 PM

drop is 46mm
Much stronger and thicker than stock.
4130? CrMo billet CNC machined 2 piece design.
Uses earlier type calipers. (in my case they are going to Glenn for work to be done )
Uses nos type ball joints as the aftermarket type are too tall and don't clear the spindle.

Full restro with stealth performance mods. Jake Raby is now developing suby packages. Some years to go yet, but hell yeah!
He will make the best no doubt!

vlad01 - October 8th, 2011 at 08:30 PM

If you want another heads up on some available performance mods for your type 3, talk to K-mac.

They have bolt in sway bar kits available for our cars. They informed me they have had these kits on offer since the 70's
about $500 for a complete front and rear kit.

ZoumbaZoumba - October 14th, 2011 at 05:06 PM

Cool!
