Just getting my 73 square ready for roadworthy.
The indicater lever does not flick back after turning. Having never owned a VW before, is this normal and will this be a problem with getting a
roadworthy?
Can anyone help with how to fix it? Parts etc?
Cheers
None of my Type 3's have ever done it, My 73 or my 70, but a mates 73 does...
They all did it originally, but the pissy little plastic hooks that hold the spring snap off real easy.
Also most aftermarket steering wheel bosses dont have real good tab parts that operate it, heaps smaller than stock wheels
All mine flicked back so yours is stuffed.
Mine doesn't either and it passed rego. I didn't even know mine was capable of doing it.

Mine self cancels on left turn, dosn't on right turn but I do have an after marked steering wheel.
Its been a standard feature on vws since 1960, most are just broken by now

I guess mine is broken too?
I didd'nt know if they had self cancelling either but now I know they did so Ive got stock original broken self cancellers.
I think you should just take a chance on getting it over the pits.
Mine works perfect

My notch also has broken cancellers and just past a blue slip the other day.
Thanks guys, will give it a go with my broken cancellers.
My Holden loving mate has got me worried about getting a roadworthy and reckons they will will pick up on every little thing.
Getting new tires on Monday then in for RW next week sometime, fingers crossed.
Depends where you get a roadworthy...mine passed and only one of mine self cancels... but... it is a road worthy item. You can buy parts to fix it but probably see if they pick it out on first try...
Roundabouts kill them
Are the fragile self-cancelling indicators almost up there with the stupid pneumatic windscreen washers in terms of VW design faults? They would have to be close.
yea those washers are stupid. thats why i am making my electrical conversion but still keeping it original looking.
It is not a legal requirement for the indicator to self cancel.

No indicator cancel for me. Passed blue. Never been questioned on a pink.
The washer used to work then put electric in, the motor died so now don't have washers either, but I have more boot space.
Just got the 65 notch RWC with indicators self cancelling - usually before I get to the actual turn unfortunately
