Hi there
I am new to the Forum
I currently own a scruffy T3 Fastback which has been off the road for some time
I had the engine rebuilt some time ago due to contaminated fuel and detonation however there is still a problem with it; the pushrods keep moving
(jumping)out of the rocker seats.
Initially I thought it was not enough movement/clearance in the new heads but now I am beginning to suspect it may be the new dual stronger springs
and incorrect adjustment causing binding/jamming.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated as I am clearing out the garage to start working on it.
Brief engine specs are
DH wasserboxer block
94x82 piston and cylinder assy
CB 044 Supermag Plus heads with dual super rev springs (ported and polished)
Dual twin throat dellorto 45D carbys
have you checked the rocker geometry out
Push rod angle to rocker screw at lift etc
Hi Hellbugged
Still clearing space to work on it. Was originally rebuilt by small aviation firm but the mechanic was badly injured and the firm closed before the
problem could be fixed so its up to me now and I have done little work on aircooled motors. Will check it out when its on the bench.
BTW the car was originally built by Hellbug
ha ha, yes the oxy boxer a bit of a ive away there
Not the grey "hellfasty"?
They didnt happen to reduce compression with the rebuild by any chance?
pics if you can
Always the best help for remote diagnosis
I think i went for a run in that type 3.....
I'd check for clearance before coil bind on those springs too. Some major issues to be sorted to have the pushrods coming out of the rocker. Firstly
I'd look at spring tension. but you say they are new so if the springs were tested and installed to the correct installed height, they should be ok,
so next would be the valve lift is more than the spring can handle, should aim for .100" clearance before bind.
Thanks for the quick replies and what to check for.
The car is orange, it was originally built for someone in Bondi beach. He unfortunately died and his brother took it over I bought it from him and had
it shipped to WA.
Have posted a few pics but will not be able to get some good engine pics for a week or so, am getting rid of T1 etc parts at the moment as the garage
is full of stuff.
Th car does not look as pretty as in the pic
Edit: Compression ratio 8.5 to 1 from memory
