I got a set from Bert3's first run a couple of years ago. Very good although I will still drop the front one more notch.

L469 - December 15th, 2010 at 04:16 PM

excuse my ignorance but what do drop spindles do exactly?:?::blush:

vlad01 - December 15th, 2010 at 05:02 PM

drop spindle has their stub axle moved up on the spindle, so it effectively lowers the car without any or much alteration to the suspension geometry ( lowered and full travel retained)
Very useful, especially on type 3's as their suspension does not work properly at all when lowered the traditional way.

L469 - December 15th, 2010 at 05:08 PM

sounds like a great idea how low would you have to go to need them that is minimum drop? i want to bring the front down one notch or so would i need this?

oztype3 - December 15th, 2010 at 07:16 PM

you cant just modify your spindles at the snap of fingers.. hence the name DROP spindles mean they DROP the SPINDLE.. they mainly drop 2 1/2 inchs
if you guys want to order some i got a guy up on the goldcoast here im pretty sure he has type 3 spindles but ill ring him tomo and find out
if someone is interested

bus914 - December 15th, 2010 at 08:32 PM

I guess this would require Eng's cert.?
Whould there be any issues getting one?

vlad01 - December 15th, 2010 at 08:35 PM

I wouldn't think so. Bert's spindles are highly over engineered. they are cnc billets :tu:

oztype3 - December 15th, 2010 at 09:21 PM

you cant just modify your spindles yourself unless you know what you doing. its easier just to buy them
no engineer cert need its just lowering your car..

Type 3 spindles are completely different to beetle, for the record they are a ball joint but completely different to beetle ones.

Vice.

empi - December 23rd, 2011 at 03:35 PM

Errrr they do.... either a beetle beam or the narrowed trailing arms. Will talk more about it when you come over next with beer! :spin:

vlad01 - December 23rd, 2011 at 10:01 PM

So anyone want my spindles? I can't use them as I need massive brakes. :D

Fastie - December 24th, 2011 at 11:10 AM

I thought you said your spindles were going to work with the VWcool brake package? Or have you gone with another setup

vlad01 - December 24th, 2011 at 04:57 PM

yes and no. it can fit but that would require spacing the steering arm a little but I have been advised not to do that by Glenn.

Steering geometry gets f**ked up if you do that.

He can still do brakes for it but they will be based on stock calipers, well which well you know  He says they are a huge improvement over bone stock but still I want the brake in which I drive every day and I know how good they are :tu:

shaven - June 3rd, 2013 at 12:31 AM

is anyone making these... if so which are the BEST & why... just want opinions.
cheers matty

vwo60 - June 3rd, 2013 at 07:28 AM

The previous posts about the engineereing, you will need to have them engineered weither it is just lowering, they are not a proproiritory part, to run them legally on the road they would require a deflection test and probably destructive testing, a costly exercise

yes thats ture, but I bet they'll put the stock spindles to shame on the tests.
