just picked her up in cobram tonite
its my first car drove the 3 and a bit hours back to melb in the pissing rain
leaking a little under the dash wich i need to do something about asap
runs great and handles very well but we got to the corner of the nepean and hampton street and she stopped dead, would not turn over but i will say
there was a little red light with a g in a circle on it and it was lit up
now would that be generator?
gotta go back in the morning to sort her out but may just need some one in the know on vws to come take a lookj
any ideas lads
cheers
eccles
went and got her this morning, started first go but i think there is a generator problem and the damn trunk is stuck, i pulled the little lever to
no avail
took some snaps of her in my driveway
shes a little rough with a couple wrinkles to iron out
but i will tell you these things are a love affair, hope top get my first car sorted asap
type3diesease has already been a great help
she has done 1100 kms in the last 24 hours so she is forgiven for the little things
Got the engine lid open yet?
I would be very anxious to atleast check the oil level of an old vw I'd only just bought after driving 3.5 hours.
pull the lever while some one else jigles the boot
Those levers are often tight and it will need to be pulled the full extent of its travel
The previous owner will know the secret procedure to get it open
Are you pulling the lever in the glovebox - or have you figured there's one in the passenger door latch area.
With the dash leaks it is a easy fix. Just pour water down the bonnet vents to loosen the shit up. Then remove the rubber hoses that run down under
the dash to the gutter hole and blow hard in them. Have a container ready to catch all the black gunk and death water that comes pouring out. If
you're not quick enough you'll swallow it (lesson learned).
Then to finish connect it all together and pour boiling water through to give it a final clean out.
verryyyy nice notch. well done!
a local guy to me came around and showed me what needs to be done
had a great chat and the things i need to do are all little
took some more pics too after a little turning her into mine
this will be the daily driver project car
I like it and looks like alot of fun to be had Eccles!
Looks good man. Good luck. I love the rug.
Just thinking some times the main wire to the auto gear selector can be lose or frayed at connection after years , just check easy to pull apart It is under the auto shift. always a shame to see the rust. cool mudflaps.
get the standard air cleaner assembly back on.......that way the engine sucks in fresh air not the pre heated air from the engine bay
and you'll be able to plumb up the breather to it.... win win!
make sure the drians in the bottoms of the doors are clear and get some fish oil in there as well as the lower edges of the boot and bonnet.....yeah
and have fun with it!
put the horn back in front of the spare wheel where it belong
oh neato notch by the way
The look on the cutie's face says it all I reckon
Sorry I didn't see your post yesterday; I live close by. Nice auto notch!
For any major mechanical work including radwortyinpetion I can highly recommend:

Ask for Dale.

I think you've lost claim of ownership to the cutie. I know that from experience, my little one has been telling me for years it's her car.
so i gotta get a new alternator plug some rust and will be all good to go
This reminds me a lot of my first dub. Adding to what Fastie said, I used a coat hanger to poke to shit out of those dash hoses. Lots of dead bugs in there. Re the problem that stopped the car, check the regulator under the rear seat (small box 2 inches by inches). Take a lid off, and see if the contact points have any grit in them. Get a small file and clean them out.
Please be careful and check the condition of the sidewall on your tyres, those whitewalls will cut through them eventually!
